Aya Sensei started her teaching career in New York at the Japanese Weekend School of New York, where she taught K-12 students. She was asked to develop a new course that highlighted the strengths of Japanese and English bilingual students. She created a curriculum, Media<\/em>, in which students discussed current events by comparing articles in the New York Times and the Asahi Shimbun, to hone their critical thinking skills. In 2008, when she was assigned to handle “College Admission Guidance” for high school students, Aya Sensei decided to provide multifaceted support for students born and raised in the US who did not attend weekend school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After departing the Weekend School in 2015, she launched a “sakubun” class for bilingual students in English and Japanese, followed by the launch of a coaching service for students who seek admission to challenging universities in Japan and the U.S. Working with native English-speaking staff members, Aya Sensei provides comprehensive college and career path guidance with the main focus on “writing” from brainstorming essays to giving feedback.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, she has had a long career as a business translator, mainly for legal and marketing services. She also works as a translator for the Nassau BOCES to assist Japanese-speaking students and their parents. She  has published translated versions of such critically acclaimed bestsellers as “The Survival Guide for Computer Users” and “The Whipping Girl.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
